如果你是在上世纪70年代末出生的，你也许并不知道Peter Cullen是谁，但你肯定知道他在动画片中所扮演的角色－－擎天柱。在其40年的职业生涯中，Cullen将他独特的低音奉献给了一系列的动画角色和其他影视人物；在某种程度上，每一个出生在那个年代的美国儿童（也包括同时代的中国儿童－－译注）可能都熟悉他的声音，即使并不真正知道他是谁。
在这些作品中，"变形金刚"至今仍是还旧动画中的经典，而且自从上世纪80年代中期擎天柱的第一次死亡开始，其追随者（影迷）的数量不降反升，而梦工厂也正是希望通过第一部《变形金刚》真人电影夺得今夏暑期档的票房冠军。当该片正在好莱坞进行后期制作之际，电影制片方仍在努力保持影片与原始动画片在感知上的一致性。而他们的第一步就是通过邀请Peter Cullen来到影片中再次为擎天柱配音。
《超级英雄》杂志（Superhero Hype!） 于本周就《变形金刚：电影版》独家专访了Cullen。
杂志：你好，Peter。你好吗？
Cullen：我很好，谢谢。
杂志：我记得在什么地方看到过你说"擎天柱"的声音是你从事配音职业中最好的角色声音。
Cullen：是的。
杂志：从最初的动画片到今天已经有20多年了。现在你再回到这个角色为其配音，那是什么感觉？
Cullen：哦，感觉太棒了！我非常兴奋，因为在经过这么多年之后，我必须说，"擎天柱"无论如何在80年代早期时都不是我最喜欢的角色，而当我回顾当时的这个想法时，我也不知道这是为什么。我的意思是，我也无法解释为什么。对此，我没有什么需要说明的原因。所以他当时并不是最喜欢的角色，我甚至质疑过他能否得到大众的喜爱。因为如果编剧让他就这么死了，我得说这家伙也不过就是个平凡的领导者，但直到多年之后，我才发现事实并非如此。

Cullen：没错。我和麦克尔．贝一起在录音室里工作，对面是一台巨大的屏幕，我就在那里工作。而且，除了麦克尔．贝陪着我以外，我就是一个人配音。
杂志：你说你工作时必须看着大屏幕，那你都看到了什么呢？
Cullen：我看到的并不是全部。我看到的内容有些已经被搬上了电视做宣传。我在一个巨大的屏幕前工作，那不是IMAX或是高清屏幕之类的东西，只是录音棚里的工作台，但已足够巨大，而且效果也很有震憾性。之前，我也曾向一个朋友说过，当我第一次看到"擎天柱"，信号灯亮了起来，意思是让我开始说话，可我却失语了。我惊呆得连下巴都快掉下来了。于是，我随即说了一句："哦，喔。"而当他们重新倒好片子，让我再试的时候，我又失语了，还是因为我呆呆地看着他，那场景实在是太可笑了。我不得不向他们道歉："对不起，伙计们，这简直太棒了！"一开始就是这样子。
杂志：听说他们将许多不同版本的"变形金刚"故事揉合到了一起，并加进了他们对这部电影自己的想法，所以这是一部全新的影片。而影迷们好像对此颇有微词，特别是对陪伴他们一起成长的角色的变化。你觉得，当他们最终在电影中看到这些角色的形象时，他们会有什么反应？
Cullen：哦，我也是他们中的一员。每个人对过往的事物都会有些感伤的情绪，可事物是会改变的。我不知道该怎么说，但如果我有一辆旧车，一辆一直陪伴着我一直长大的汽车，而每年它都会变得比之前更陈旧，事物也是一样，但会变得更好。一家公司生产出了一种新轮胎，我会给我的汽车换上新的轮胎，这样它就会更便于驾驶，但它还是原来的旧车，我还是会对它有同样的感伤情绪，但事情确实变得更好了，比如再换上一架新的引擎之类的。"变形金刚"也是同样的道理，我想"变形金刚"的精髓还没有变。我觉得影迷们不会失望的，因为毕竟这是一种情结。我认为影片还是照顾到了影迷们的感情，所以那会是一种普遍的情况（指"影迷们不会失望"）。
杂志：你对这种感情持续如此长的时间是否感到过惊讶？一开始先是玩具的促销，而且基本上持续了一个人一生的时间。你觉得呢？
Cullen：是的，但真正让我感到惊讶的是，在这么多年之后，我才发现它是那么的成功。一直到90年代后期的时候，在我女儿的坚持下，我陪她去参加了一次"变形金刚"签名会。她告诉我："爸爸，世界上有许多的孩子都是在变形金刚的陪伴下长大的，他们都非常非常想见到你。"我说："你开玩笑吧？"当我到了纽约的罗切斯特时，我才真正意识到它有那么多的影迷，有那么大的影响力，那么受大众欢迎。当然，我也很受感动，很惊讶，那给我留下了极深刻的印象。到现在，我仍然很感激这些影迷，真的。
杂志：我听说，你已经在后两部续集的合约上签了字，是吗？
Cullen：希望是。是的，没错。据说一共有三部电影，那是一份三部影片的合同。让我感到非常兴奋的是，我并没有被剧组淘汰。

Cullen：是的，没有。
